Urša Sekirnik graduated from SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) in 2011, and from the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana in 2014.

Currently based between Barcelona and Slovenia, her work encompasses a broader field of performing arts. In addition to contemporary dance, her work also incorporates other performance practices and artistic genres. She is particularly interested in participatory forms of performance and the audience experience is always at the forefront of her work.

She builds this both on an emotional level by sharing a personal story (as in her works The visible Illusions of a frozen body, 2011/2012 and The Other Void, 2013) or through the (in)use of channels such as blogs (Arriving.Soon., 2011, in collaboration with Nina Jan) and online shops (À la Cart Performance Webshop, 2014, in collaboration with Nina Jan). In the performance RADIO HIT (2018) she explored the relationship between pop music and dance, the audience's personal views in relation to hit songs and the ways in which the audience is involved in both the creative process and the final performance. In 2020 she started a new project Fent Cua / While We Waited, where she explored the notion of waiting, more specifically queuing, in collaboration with Jo Serra. In recent years, she has started working closely with Mireia de Querol, resulting in two projects: Bestiari Dixit, a performance commissioned by APdC and Catalan libraries, premiered in September 2022, and Interlúdic (2024), an intergenerational participatory experience. In recent years, she has also collaborated with Aja Zupanec, with whom she created the participatory walk (P)tour in 2023.

As a dancer since 2016, she has worked closely with the Barcelona-based collective Big Bouncers in shows such as Plancton, O.V.N.I. and Jungle. She has danced in the performances Ritmia and NeoPicnic by Catalan choreographer Emma Villavecchia and was dramaturge of the project Screaming Glitter by Aja Zupanec. She has previously performed in Jerome White's The Show Must Go On and collaborated with Nina Jan, Jo Serra, Collectif PoPs, Phoebe Osborne, Jordi Ferreira, Carolina Alejos and Silvio Elgarrista, among others.

In 2010, together with Nina Jan, she co-founded the Cultural Art Association NUM (KUD NUM), which offers a creative space for artistic production, the organisation of art events in the local environment and the promotion of local art at home and abroad.

In 2019, she joined the team of La Visiva Residency Centre in Barcelona, where together with Ana Rubirola and Mireia de Querol, she develops and implements various activities related to movement, artistic process and dance creation.

She has been invited to several residencies (Graner - center de creació de dansa i arts vives, CC Can Felipa, Can Gassol, New Dance Alliance New York; nunArt, Barcelona; tragantDansa, Barcelona; Muelle3, Bilbao; Estruch Sabadell, Spain; CUK Kino Šiška, Ljubljana; CC Albareda, Barcelona; Plesni teater Ljubljana; Moveo, Barcelona,...) and developed her work in collaboration with national and international producers and centres (Emanat, Aksioma - Institute for Contemporary Art, Ljubljana; CUK Kino Šiška, Ljubljana; Bunker Institute, Ljubljana; Eye Amsterdam; Drugo More, Rijeka; Antic Teatre, Barcelona...).

In recent years she has become interested in costume design and has created costumes for her own works (Fent Cua, Bestiari Dixit, Interlúdic) and for works by other directors and choreographers (Carlota Grau, Anna Rubirola/Big Bouncers, LaSubita).

Her work has also been featured in media such as Dnevnik, Delo, the ARS programme and La Vanguardia newspaper,

Novi tednik, portal Neodvisni, Loški Utrip (see publications listed in the previous section).
